On this page, you’ll find everything about drivers and various utilities for the VAIO UX series Micro PC’s. And of course, you can download them for free.

Windows XP VAIO-UX drivers

For Windows XP, Sony released a lot of individual driver files back in the day, each requiring manual installation. The official drivers are no longer available on the Sony website (but you may want to read on).

Around the same time, forum user Sull86 of micropctalk.com (a site which is also no longer online), bundled these drivers in so-called ‘Driver Packs’. The driver packs contain a combination of all drivers needed to get your UX system up and running and have numbered folders for easier installation. These driver packs have been brought back online for download using copies from the Internet Archive.

Compatibility

The XP driver packs are compatible with all VAIO UX models, even those which shipped with Vista. This is thanks to a clever trick applied called the “model.txt patch”, which removes the check added by Sony to verify if your model was actually shipped with XP

Downloads

You can download the various VAIO UX driver packs below:

Version 2.3 (RECOMMENDED)

The most up-to-date driver pack which I found online at the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. This is the most complete set of Windows XP drivers ever made. All drivers are stored in folders numbered for the correct order of installation. When reinstalling windows, install all drivers in the order in which the folders are numbered. Otherwise, install the single driver you’ll need. Please read the instructions by clicking on the title below, before clicking on the blue button “Download” button.

WWAN Pack

Use this download to install the drivers for the Wireless WAN / Cingular EDGE module of a US-model VGN-UX. Install this after having installed all other drivers.

Version 2.0

This is one of the driver packs I got on CD with my own computer. It is slightly older than version 2.3, but should still work fine. All drivers are stored in folders numbered for the correct order of installation. When reinstalling windows, install all drivers in the order in which the folders are numbered. Otherwise, install the single driver you’ll need.

Version 3 (BETA)

This was the other driver pack I got on CD with my own computer. It contains a single executable which auto-installs *ALL* drivers at once. Only for use on clean Windows installations. Not tested by me!

Custom Windows XP install disk maker

For advanced users: You can use this handy tool to create your own Windows XP Driver CD with the specific drivers and applications you’ll need!

Windows Vista VAIO-UX drivers

For Windows Vista, back in the day, Sony offered individual driver files on their website. These are no longer available (but you may want to read on).

In contrast to Windows XP and Windows 7, no community-built driver packs were created. This was probably due to the fact that almost nobody wanted to upgrade a Vaio computer that shipped with Windows XP to Windows Vista, and maybe also because a lot of computers already shipped with Windows Vista from the factory and thus did not need any drivers to be installed.

To help you get the drivers installed, I have created a Vista driver pack myself, based on the drivers still online at https://drivers.eu. It contains most of the drivers and applications, but not as many as in the Windows XP driver packs. The Vista pack should give you a decent experience when not installing Vista from a recovery disk or the built-in recovery partition.

For the best experience, you may consider using a Recovery Disk or the Recovery Partition instead.

Bypass “not intended for use with your computer model” error

If any of the Vista drivers give an error that it is “not intended for use with your computer model”, please follow the instructions on this page to get around it:

Windows 7 VAIO-UX drivers

For Windows 7, Sony released a combination of Vista drivers and some updated official drivers back in the day. These are unfortunately no longer available on their website (but you may want to read on).

Since many people did upgrade their computer to Windows 7 back in the day, the community created a handy driver pack to install all drivers on a clean installation of Windows 7. This was developed by forum user Sull86 of micropctalk.com (a site which is also no longer online), and is very complete in terms of included drivers & applications.
This driver pack has been brought back online for download using a copy from the Internet Archive.
Please read the instructions by clicking on the title below, before clicking on the blue “Download” button.

Thanks for that, just got myself an UX90S from Japan and while I could sort all the drivers after reinstalling an English version of XP this package of XP stuff gave me the missing utilities that are really necessary to get the cameras and shortcut buttons working 🙂

Hi Arjan, great site and saved me as the downloads are no longer available from Sony.
I managed to get almost everything working with exception to the rear camera (as per the above post by Alejandro). Is there somethign specifically to do to be able to switch to the rear camera.

The Vista pack worked great but i still needed to install some of the XP drivers first in some instances – maybe need a running order ?
I’m running Windows Vista Business SP2 on a VGN UX91NS imported from Japan

I’m really liking the machine and it’s not running bad to say we are in Mar 2021 🙂

      Hi Luciano,

I searched for this error online (“failed to apply customer image”) and you may have gotten yourself a bad copy of the second recovery disk.
Can you confirm that the error appears when you have already switched to the second disk?

      Greetings from VAIO UX Plaza,

Hi I’m running a Vaio VGN-UX380CN, and I’ve gotten everything I want to work on it. Except the camera utility (not the camera capture utility) won’t work. It’s running windows vista using the driver pack provided here. I tried 380N recovery disks but those always fail, and I’ve used as many other drivers as I can find.
All I really want to do is just to get the back camera to work. I know a lot of other people have had this issue but I know now it’s because of the camera utility not running, for me anyways. If it helps to know, the camera utility never seems to run on its own and anytime I try to launch it I get an unknown error has occurred message. Thanks for any help you can provide, I seriously don’t know where else to look!
