Windows 7 Driver & Application Pack v1.1
[Updated: 23/06/24]
------------------------------------------------------------------------This is a community built driver and application pack for Windows Se7en. Unfortunately I do have Windows 7 on my UX, so I am not able to test this pack for reliability, I am also unable to unpack all the executables to test if the model.txt exists. If any user is willing to unpack and test the whole pack please do
Instructions:
1. Please disable UAC, you can turn it back on once having finished installing everything.
2.Unfortunately, the drivers check for a specific computer model which may not be yours. You will need to trick model.txt by following the method below.
- Locating the model.txt, you should find the file in C:Windows. If you do not see the file, you will need to grab the first Sony driver (Realtek High Definition Audio Driver) and run it. If it fails with a message that it is not designed for your computer model, the model.txt file will be created, and you will have to follow the steps below. If it does not fail, congratulations, you can install all drivers straight away and turn back on UAC afterwards!
- Once you've found the model.txt file, open it (in Notepad) and change it, so it contains the following information:
Model = “VGN-UX (enter the model for which you are downloading the drivers)” Example: Model = “VGN-UX380N”. Save this as model.txt in C:Windows. (If you get an error that you don't have permission to save here, first save it to the desktop or 'My Documents', then move the edited file to C:Windows using the file explorer)- Right click on the edited model.txt file, scroll down and click on Properties, at the top of the window click on the Security tab. Let's make sure we have full permission to do what we need;
- You should see an Advanced button at the bottom right corner of the window. When you press the "advanced" button, a new window should appear, at the top of this window select the Owner tab, at the bottom left corner of the screen press Edit, now click on your username and press OK. You will probably get a security window that says “If you have just taken ownership of this object, you will need to close and reopen this object's properties before you can view or change permissions” that is exactly what we are going to do, press OK and keep pressing OK until all the property windows are closed;
- Now let's go back to the model.txt properties to change the permissions so that the file cannot be written to. Right click on the model.txt file and click on Properties. At the top of the window, select the "Security" tab. Near the top of the window, you should see “Group or user names:”. For the first user name listed, click on it and then click on the Edit button. A new window should appear and now you should put a check mark in the box to deny Write permissions. Do this for every user listed in the top section labelled "Group or user names:" (you can click on the user name to change permissions). Press OK to confirm and close all other properties windows by clicking OK;
- Once finished, restart the computer;
- If you have followed the instructions correctly, when running any executable packed by Sony you should get an error, but let it continue on and it should finish without any problems
3. Start with Driver #1 and work your way to the last #, including / excluding any drivers/applications which do not apply to your model.
4. Remember to turn back on UAC afterwards, as otherwise the system is very insecure.
